MPs pledge support at Walthamstow meeting
2 November. Around 200 people were present at the Al Badr hall in Lea Bridge Road, Walthamstow, on Thursday 2 November as speaker after speaker condemned the manoueverings that could leave us without a local district general hospital.
Two hospital consultants, Alan Hakim and Indira Mootoosamy, spelled out just how good clinical care is at Whipps, and how teams built up over years were under threat as the health authority seeks to save money.
Dot Gibson from the National Pensioners' Convention added her voice to the outrage. Pensioners, she said, were there at the start of the NHS in 1948, and they know what life was like for millions without it.
All three Waltham Forest and Wanstead MPs were there, each pledging support for the campaign.
